Baton-Rouge - The month of May brings awareness to mental health and highlighting overall mental wellness in our communities. Youth Oasis will have a community conversation on youth mental wellness towards the beginning of June, with our dedicated leadership staff. We also will bring awareness to daily practices of youth mental wellness and addressing youth suicide on our social media platforms.

The level of importance for youth mental health has been mainly focused on aftercare for depression and suicidal thoughts that has appeared in youth lives, but not as much for daily practices for mental care and wellness, ongoing methods as a normal aspect in youth development. Over 5,000 teens and youth adults in America have either committed or thought about suicide. But, how can we prevent this early on in life? What are some ways to improve mental wellness for youth at home, school, and other places? How are we as adults or youth care workers displaying our own daily mental wellness practices around youth to learn and model? Self -care, self-awareness, and better access to mental health resources can be a start for bettering a community's mental states, especially if we begin with youth emotional and mental wellness during childcare learning development.

Tekoah Boatner, the Executive Director of Youth Oasis firmly believes in youth mental wellness is key, she states “Teaching youth the skills to incorporate daily care and management of mental health and wellness is important because it empowers youth to take ownership of their mental health and helps them understand how having strong mental health and wellness habits helps them in their everyday lives.”

We believe in community support and it takes a village to help youth! Donations and funding to support Youth Oasis will be greatly appreciated. To learn more about our services, please visit our website at www.youthoasis.org or email us at Info@youthoasis.org Our Doors Are Always Open!
