The goals of
Passages include:

To
provide a safe, stable living environment for young adults who may not
otherwise have such accommodations.
·
To
provide youth services that will enable them to develop the necessary
independent living skills and personal characteristics with which they are
more likely to become able to live independently.
·
To
provide youth with access to community services and resources that will
enhance their ability to live independently.
·
To
reduce the incidence of current or former foster care youth becoming or
remaining homeless.
·
To
provide services and opportunities to youth that are not yet homeless but
are at risk for becoming homeless. The
admission process
to Passages begins by calling Youth Oasis at
225-343-6300
Any youth interested in
applying for admission must meet the following criteria:
- Unmarried male or female, age 16-20 at the time of
admission;
- Has graduated from high school or is willing to
complete high school (within six months of admission) or has obtained a G.E.D.
or is willing to work toward a G.E.D;
- Lacks family support systems, has aged-out of a
residential care facility or the current living environment is unsafe
and an alternative is unavailable;
- Agrees to remain drug and alcohol free during the
contracting transition period;
- Be willing to develop a written contract with the
agency, in which they have self-identified goals and be responsible for
goal achievement;
- Youth must be nonviolent and be emotionally capable of
participating in an intensive transition program.
