Kaleidoscope Emergency Shelter for Youth             Passages Transitional Living Program

The Kaleidoscope program is the initial entry point into the Youth Oasis system of supports and services for runaway, throwaway and homeless youth ages 10 to 17.  Its primary function is to provide food, safety, medical, educational, emotional, and related supports for residents on a temporary basis until a more stable living situation is found.  Kaleidoscope also serves youth in danger of being separated from their families by providing respite and other services in coordination with local agencies such as the Capital Area Human Services District and the Office of Community Services, to prevent this separation whenever possible.

The Passages program works with homeless youth, ages 16 to 21, to teach them the independent living skills that they must have in our contemporary society.  The youth live in one of our supervised apartments for 6 months, and then, for up to a year afterward, we continue to work with then as they move to their own apartments and live responsibly on their own.  Passages was created to help at-risk youth to make their future brighter, and, in so doing, to make the future brighter for all of us.
